What is a Discharge Upgrade or Correction?
The Veterans Assistance Commission of Lake County provides comprehensive support to Veterans pursuing discharge upgrades and corrections, we offer guidance throughout the application process to ensure military service is represented with accuracy and fairness. Our assistance includes preparation of discharge upgrade requests, as well as correction of military records to reflect awards and declarations that may not currently appear on a DD214 or NGB22.
Each circumstance is evaluated individually, and while not all services may be applicable in every case, we are committed to helping Veterans determine the most appropriate course of action for their situation.
Do any of the following circumstances apply to you?
If you can show that your discharge was connected to any of the following, there is a strong case for a discharge upgrade:
• Sexual Assault (MST)
• Sexual orientation/LGBTQ+ (including the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy)
• COVID-19
• Mental Health (Anxiety, Depression, PTSD etc.)
• Reprisal/Whistleblower
• Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Violence
• Missing awards or Decorations
